NSS (National Service Scheme)
National
Service Scheme (N.S.S.) founded by Mahatma Gandhi to motivate students towards
social activities. The scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s centenary year in
1969. NSS is a part of Govt. of India that comes under Ministry of Youth
Affairs & Sports.
The
goal of N.S.S. is education through Community Service. The purpose is to enrich
the student’s personality & deepen his understanding of the social
environment in which he lives. It should help students to develop an awareness
and knowledge of social reality to have concern for the wealth being of the
community to undertake appropriate activities design to tackle social problems
to promote welfare. The objective of NSS therefore. “Development of the
personality of the students through Community Service.”
NSS Badge:

The Konark wheel in the NSS badge
having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of a day, reminding the wearer to be ready
for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.
Red Colour in the badge
signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
The Blue colour signifies
the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for
the welfare of the mankind.
NSS Motto:
The motto of National Service Scheme
is “NOT ME BUT YOU”.
The
main aim of National service scheme is to give extension Dimension to higher
education and orient student youth are be Aware about the social problems and
needs of villages while Working in that mille. N.S.S. give an opportunity to
volunteers To develop themselves through mass development.
The
objective of N.S.S are: -
- Understand the Community in which they work. ( Adopt a
village )
- Understand themselves in relation to their Community.
- Identify the needs and Problems in the Community in the
Solution of which they can be involved.
- Develop in themselves a sense of Social & Civic
responsibility.
- Apply their education in finding practical solutions to
individual & community problems
- Develop Competence required for group living &
sharing responsibilities
- Gain Skills in mobilizing Community Participation
- Acquire leadership qualities & democratic attitude.
- Develop Capacity to meet emergencies & natural
disasters.
- Practice National Integration.
